Paid Activist Jobs for Obama [27 Aug 2008|01:48pm]

Tired of the Bush Administration and the way our country is being run?
Take America in a new direction!

Get paid to work towards a more progressive future where:

- Every American has health care
- All our children can receive a quality education
- Global warming is reversed and our energy comes from clean, renewable sources
- America is an example for the world through partnerships abroad and democracy at home

While we’re spending billions of dollars every week in Iraq and giving tax breaks to oil companies that are raking in record profits, we cannot provide millions of children, here at home, healthcare or a decent education. Currently, we are working on campaigns to restructure our country’s priorities by organizing at the grassroots level and signing up members! To do this, we're seeking hard-working, committed progressives who are interested in making a difference and want to move our country in the right direction!

Career opportunities and benefits available.

because I care... [28 Dec 2006|10:37pm]

Denver kids, listen up!

They are enforcing the snow route parking restrictions. "Snow route parking restrictions?" you may ask. That's right, snow route parking restrictions. You've seen the signs, but since they haven't been enforced in forever, few people pay them much notice.

They look like this: title or description

So if you see one... yes, you guessed it, don't park there. Unless you like fines and having your car towed.

[11 Apr 2006|11:00pm]

Because there are students who's futures are in jeopardy for participating in the walkout, I will be organizing a vigil for the 19th of April. The vigil will take place during lunch and after school in the rotunda. For those interested in continuing the effort to show that immigrants are not felons, we will be trying to organize random vigils to continue throughout the month, as we continue to watch political developments. A vigil will also be held at North highschool. We hope to cover greater ground by using both methods of protest. Students participating in the vigil, PLEASE wear white. We will try to hold impromtu vigils through-out the day.

WE DO URGE YOU to take part in the walkout. HOWEVER it is understood that for some students this is not an option.

gas prices [11 Apr 2006|05:03pm]

This is pretty much for upperclassmen...but get your parents to do it too

This might be worth a try and it certainly won't hurt to test out this theory:

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action.

A fellow named Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. However - this might be a plan that can work. Please read on and if you agree - join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers.

If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

[10 Apr 2006|10:01pm]

If I don't say this now...I will surely break-

A group called United with Immigrants is organizing a walkout for the 19th at 8:00 am in protest of immigration reform bills that are currently going through senate. If you aren't informed about these bills, PLEASE LOOK THEM UP. United with Immigrants is trying to spread the word throughout schools to get us to stand up for these immigrants' rights as human beings. We are hoping that we will be able to bring this to DSA as well. At 8:00, stand up, declare "Walk out, DSA!" and leave the school, taking with you any supporters. Bang on classroom doors and get as many people as you can. We must stop this bill for the good of the nation! Remember, when american sneezes, Mexico gets pneumonia. STOP THE HATE. Wear white on this day. We'll have central meeting with everyone else at the capitol building. So far the other school who has claimed an active desire to participate is North. TELL YOUR FRIENDS.

On another note, this is a peaceful protest. Violence will not be tolerated. This walkout is not being organized to offend the school. We are looking for the school's support in a matter which is so deeply important to us, and affects many of personally.

attention boys of DSA:

you are hereby required to have at least six (6) girls as witnesses whenever you want to make out with each other. this is because the girl:boy ratio is about 3:1, so if there's two of you, there should be six of us. we feel this is fair for all involved.

love, the girls of DSA.

UACK BBQ! [18 Feb 2006|10:28am]

Earn volunteer hours!

Teach kids:

When: March 4, 2006
Where: 2861 South Grape Way, Denver, CO, 80222
Time: 2pm - 6pm

Food and refreshments will be provided!

United Artists' Coalition for Kids (UACK) is a conglomerate of young adults based out of Denver, CO, who operate on a grass-roots level through youth outreach of art education. UACK is composed of high school and college students that serve as volunteers to teach art to children that may not normally be exposed to such an influence. Our agenda is promote healing, self-expression, identity, self-definition, and self-determination through various artistic mediums. As a group, our goal is to create safe spaces that these negative persuasions may leave youth disenfranchised and marginalized by society. In such a negative climate, it is possible for children to become disillusioned and desperate. We believe that by providing these safe spaces, our youth can begin to define their own futures. Out aim is that through UACK, we will help the youth of Colorado become leaders in their communities and positive additions to society.

Okay, y'all know Sara FD from Creative Writing? This is her invention. UACK is one of the coolest and most amazing influences I've had in my life. Volunteering is the fountain of youth, I'm telling you.
This BBQ is for all volunteers, new and old, to come and hear about the next project which will be held through the month of April at the Tennyson Center for Children (www.tennysoncenter.org) in Denver.
Volunteering with UACK requires consistent commitment but it is only a couple of hours each of the five Saturdays in April. There will also be a few prior planning meetings. It's all so worth the time, though, I promise. You'll meet some really cool people and some incredible kids.

computer help [21 Jan 2006|09:25pm]

Hey, I know that some of ya'll are computer literate, so I need help with something.

Every time that I play a CD or a DVD in the drive (be it on iTunes or on the WinDVD Player that was installed on the computer when I got it), the audio skips and jumps around. The image on the DVD is just fine - it's just the sound. I haven't got a clue what's going on with it... did a virus scan like a thousand times, made sure the DVDs weren't scratched up or anything, but I still can't get it to work. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, by the way, if that's any help.

SO appreciated.

Prom question [17 Dec 2005|01:14am]

Hey everyone... I guess this question is aimed more towards the juniors and seniors.

They were talkign about trying to get a live band to play at prom this year. Does anyone know who to talk to about this if we have a band in mind? I have no clue who's in charge of anything... any help would be really awesome.

[ mood | anxious ]

Uhm. Hola. As you may have deduced, I go to DSA. So I figured I should probably join this.

So... yeah. I'm a senior VA and all that jazz. Leah's the name. If you don't recognize it, I'm the one who's six-foot-two and gets mistaken for a guy all the time. :}

While I'm here, I guess I should ask: I accidentally left my copy of Night Watch (Terry Pratchett rocks!) either in Mr. Vrtikapa's room or the counseling office, today, I think. (I've retraced my steps over and over, and can't find it, so I assume somebody grabbed it by accident.) Anyone seen it? I'm desperate to get it back so I can finish reading it. Looks like
, only... not as large. :}
